DHAC Exercise Physiologist
Being a fulltime exercise physiologist, I am routinely asked about my own personal fitness regimen. One thing that catches many people by surprise is how I get to the gym at 5 AM for my workouts.
Yes, it’s early in the morning, and you may think I’m crazy, but I just put on my headphones, crank out a few good tunes, and let the music motivate me through the workout.
Right now I’m really big into “Rise Against” and “Bullet For My Valentine” during workouts, but I always make room for greats like “Guns N Roses” and “Aerosmith”. Throw in some of my favorites from the 90s like “Papa Roach” and “Rage Against the Machine”, and I’m ready to rock my workouts.
These aren’t necessarily my go-to bands for the car ride to the gym, but their edge gives me the kick I need first thing in the morning.
How about you? What songs are on your gym playlist? I see all you guys with your ear buds in around the fitness center. Are you listening to Simon and Garfunkle? Justin Bieber? Men At Work? What tunes/bands best motivate you?

My workout songs are from the "Village People" "Beach Boys" and maybe some from "Abba". "Queen is also pretty popular on my ipod. How about that for random music?

Micheal Jackson, Earth, wind and Fire, Blackeyed Peas, Prince, James Brown, Beyonce are heavy on my workout playlists. I like songs with an identifiable beat, good harmonies and complex rythms to drive my workout!

Do you need to ask Jason? Madonna!

Kidding aside, this is where pop/dance music comes in handy. I like something with a good driving beat (Madonna, Gaga, Kylie, Britney) or some attitude (P!nk, Kelly Clarkson). When I (can) run, I always like to start off with Robbie Williams' "Let Me Entertain You". Just is a great opener song!

Pearl Jam,U2 and Foo Fighters pump me up as well as yes, Lady Gaga- to mellow I like BB King, Eric Clapton and Travelling Wilburys I just have to remind myself not to dance around the track rather than run!
